About
Vision is more than just a film. It is a 20 minute conversation starter in story form meant to inspire individuals and communities to improve neighborhoods challenged with poverty, homelessness, and disinvestment. Screenings will include panels to discuss solutions to these issues with experts and residents.
This film began as a conversation about how Speak Up Productions could help tell the story of the nonprofit Love the Lou’s impact in North City St. Louis, a historically neglected and impoverished section of St. Louis. Once it was decided that a short fiction film may be the most creative and impactful way to capture this story, we agreed we would tell a story that could start conversations in St. Louis but also in other cities facing some of the same struggles. Thanks to funding from the Missouri Humanities Council, Vision will be doing a screening series of over 20 screenings around St. Louis. We hope to expand that screening series to other parts of the United States.
The Presenting sponsor of the film was Guild Mortgage, a company whose passion for helping create generational wealth through housing spurred them to support. Additional support came from LOVEtheLOU, Speak Up Productions, Under The Tree Designs, Missouri Film Office and the Regional Arts Commission.
Fun facts: Vision is the first film directed by a Missouri filmmaker to receive the newly reinstated Missouri film tax credit. The project is a compilation of over 75 local industry media professionals working together to bring this story to life . . . over the course of several years.
